About Makkagen Bag Company
Hello, I’m Britt, and I run Makkagen Bag Company together with my husband Clay!
I’ve always enjoyed sewing. My mother taught me how to sew when I was younger, and my childhood is filled with memories of sewing projects like patching a fishing net, an applique wall hanging and of course, Barbie doll dresses.
When I became a mother myself I re-discovered the joy of sewing in creating unique clothing items for my children, throw pillows, curtains and countless baby blankets for friends.
Then I started making personalized bags for my children: dance bags with their monograms, swim bags with their names embroidered on, and using fabric with designs they loved.
And then it clicked: what if I could create fabric with custom prints and then sew items out of that fabric? So I got a sublimation printer and learned how to digitally design fabric prints.
And that’s how Makkagen Bag Company was born. The best part is that we can now share that creative accomplishment with others: you can design a print that represents your own personal brand. The bags are both practical and versatile, but reflect your creativity.
Every Makkagen Bag Company product is handmade from start to finish in our Western Kentucky factory. Once your order comes in, we digitally design your pattern and print it on sublimation paper. The print is then transferred with a high heat press to canvas fabric. Then the individual pieces are cut out, and stitched together to create your unique bag.
The name Makkagen comes from something our son used to say when we made a dinner he wanted us to repeat, affecting a silly accent, he would say: “Mah-kah-gen”…translated: Make Again! Our hope is that you will be so happy with your creations, you will come back to make more items again!
